Last month, Brisbane-based animal rights group Best Friends Felines (BFF) received word of a mother cat and six kittens discovered in a junkyard shed.
“It’s unclear how long she was there,” Nikki of BFF explains, “but beneath her fur was a really malnourished body.” The cat’s family was brought to the veterinarian for an examination.
Aurora, the mother cat, was famished and attempting to feed six hungry mouths with no food sources. She spent all of her time in a changing house with her kittens, feeding them and making sure they were all alive.
Aurora came to the rescuers very weak and exhausted. “With her frightening thinness, she could not walk normally on her hind legs. We wanted to fully check the health of her and the babies.”
Having received a full bowl of food, the cat was filled with gratitude and ate everything as if for the last time. After much ordeal, she could finally close her eyes, knowing that her family was safe.
Aurora’s paw strength was restored thanks to healthy food and relaxation in a warm, comfy nest. She gradually gained enough strength to be able to stand on all fours and walk again during the next few days.
She gladly reaches out for attention and love whenever the nanny enters the room to help the cat.
Aurora is happy to have a roof over her head and an inexhaustible source of food. She is a miracle mother for her six, constantly making sure that their tummies are filled and their fur coats are cleaned.
The kittens (five gray and one grey-white) opened their eyes in the comfort of a safe home. Growing up, they began to crawl and stand on their legs.
“Aurora is quite comfortable in a domestic human setting; she adores attention and is constantly searching for her nanny to snuggle with.” “Her coat is already silkier, so she obviously benefits from the wonderful diet she gets,” Nikki says.
The kittens are already learning to walk and perfecting their gait under the careful eye of a caring mother.
“Everyone has already gotten up and started walking about, taking in the scenery. They began to play with each other, and it is the most delightful sight.”
Aurora now takes a break from motherhood more often and spends more time alone with people.
A wonderful cat who survived on the street with six kittens now enjoys human attention, well deserved.
