1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 LS6 Barn Find: A Promising Beginning for a Restoration Project

This YouTuber dedicates his time to uncovering prime restoration candidates and he strikes gold with this all-time classic GM muscle car find.

Barn finds are sometimes cars in absolutely depressing condition, but there’s a romance and sense of wonder when a true classic car with epic potential gets uncovered in a car graveyard. That’s why true barn find hunters and classic muscle car lovers alike roam the deepest pockets of rural America searching for cars lost to time.

One such man is Patrick Glenn Nichols, who posts videos on his YouTube channel doing what he calls “meat and potatoes” content, relaying the condition and specs of old junkyard cars he finds. In his latest video, Patrick strikes gold with a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 LS6 find. The classic Chevy muscle car is a prime candidate for an epic restoration project.

The Chevrolet Chevelle is a mainstream classic car as shown by its extensive cameos in Hollywood films, with a notable Chevy Chevelle SS 454 seen in the movie Dazed and Confused.

Patrick is a huge fan of the model and his passion for the car translates through his videos as he breaks down the details of this particular junkyard find. He states that anyone can show off existing car restorations but his sworn mission is to document unknown cars and Chevelle barn finds so they can have a second lease on life.

Patrick breaks down this particular 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS example he’s uncovered. The car appears to be a former race car but has the original cowl induction hood and hood pin plates still intact.

Unfortunately, lots of exterior and interior parts are not original such as the front grille, the door cards, and even the engine.

The LS6 Chevelle came originally with a M40 Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic transmission and 4.10 gears but as is the case with many race cars, the engine ran hard, and eventually the owner opted to swap it.

There’s still a lot to love about the car with Patrick pointing out that since it’s lived on the west coast its entire life, this really is the crown jewel of barn finds with minimal rust on the old example.

The original engine, tranny, and rear end of the car are actually on the same junk lot and Patrick points out that buying these items with the car would greatly increase the value for such a classic piece of history. Overall, Patrick endorses the car as an original LS6 Chevelle and it would make for one badass Chevelle restomod project.
