The Competition for This Rust-Free 1962 Impala Is So Intense that the Price Is Skyrocketing

The Chevrolet Impala is typically a highly desirable car, both in project car and in tip-top shape, but this 1962 model is still surprisingly appealing to eBay buyers.

The car landed on the auction site a few hours ago and is already recording an impressive success, with nearly 50 bids received nearly overnight.

The 1962 Impala didn’t bring notable styling changes, but Chevrolet tweaked the engine lineup to include more powerful choices. The base engine was still the 235 six-cylinder with 135 horsepower, but only people interested in a fancy ride to the supermarket ordered it. The 283 2-barrel was the base V8 choice, developing 170 horsepower.

The GM brand dropped the more powerful 283 versions, making room for an all-new 327 with two horsepower ratings. The standard choice was the 250-horsepower unit, while the upgraded sibling developed 300 horsepower. Chevrolet also dropped the legendary 348, so this year’s big-block engine was the 409, available with 380 and 409 horsepower. The latter sported a dual four-barrel carburetor.

The 1962 Chevy Impala listed on eBay sports the original 327, and seller classicars says it’s still in “great running condition.” It’s fitted with a Powerglide transmission, so the vehicle is ready for the road if you want a daily driver. The odometer indicates over 172,000 miles, so the car has spent many years on the road (a sign it has already received at least a partial refresh throughout its life).

The best thing about it isn’t the working engine but the metal’s condition. The Impala is entirely rust-free, so you won’t have to worry about patches or new floors. A 1962 Impala typically comes with significant damage, especially on the floors and in the trunk, but it’s not the case with this model. It’s unclear if the has ever received new floors or any other type of metalwork.

However, you can tell the car is no longer 100% original. It comes with an aftermarket air conditioning unit, so inspect it in person before committing to a purchase. Chances are this Impala has already received a partial restoration, but the engine is still original.

The interior looks good, and everything works correctly, making this Impala an easy restoration project. However, you can buy and drive the car as is, especially considering the working 327 under the hood.

The selling price keeps going up, as netizens consider this 1962 Impala a true gem (though I’d still recommend everyone to inspect it in person before committing to a purchase). The bidding has reached $17,200, with over five days remaining until the digital find ends. You can find this Impala in Florida, and given its shape, you could take it home on its wheels
