This classic Chevy gets its first wash in over a decade and proves to be full of surprises.
The guys at WD Detailing have been tackling abandoned vehicles and barn finds on their YouTube channel for several years and have often performed miracles. It appears they’ll need divine intervention in their latest video when they encounter a third-generation Chevrolet Camaro with 12 years of neglect.
Most people would consider the aging muscle car a write-off, and even WD Detailing claims they’ve never seen a car with so much spore coverage to its paintwork. It’s a challenge they embrace, though, with stunning results.
This Barely Recognizable Muscle Car Gets Some TLC
As the video begins, we see just how neglected this classic Chevy barn find really is. While examining the front fascia, RJ discovers the front grille has disintegrated during years of neglect and has to remove it completely. The upside is that it allows the guys to clear off some of the rust that has built up in what would have been hard-to-reach places
Next, they vacuum up compacted layers of dried leaves and organic material, and it’s during this part of the process that the guys notice something unusual inside the side mirrors. As they loosen up the mirror inserts, they discover wasp nests inside. After disposing of those, it’s on to the hard task of reviving the wheels. With some cleaning solution, hydrochloric acid, and lots of elbow grease, the results are incredible.
Discovering The Hidden Beauty Of This Chevy Camaro
In what’s described as the most satisfying part of the work, the car gets coated in a paint-safe degreaser and then receives two rounds of pressure washing. The grime and spores are stubborn but after several rounds of cleaning and buffing, most of it gets removed and this old muscle car begins to sparkle once more.
RJ also gives the engine a blast from the pressure washer before his good friend, Robbie Layton, arrives to see if he can get the engine running. Robbie quickly finds that the car has a corroded fuel line and is spewing fuel all over the floor. He comes up with a quick fix by disconnecting the fuel pump to stop the leakage, and to inject some starting fluid. The car starts up, but not before an ancient mouse nest gets launched out of the exhaust.
Now that they’re certain the car runs, they are happy to continue with the clean-up by tackling the interior. When the work is finally completed, it’s difficult to believe that this Camaro had spent many years in a barn.
