Taylor Swift Surprises Fans with a Performance to Celebrate Their Engagement

If it wasn’t already obvious by now, let me be the one to tell you: Taylor Swift loves her fans. The singer-songwriter (and soon-to-be IRL cat) has been known to surprise Swifties with private listening parties at her house, or send them a card to celebrate their graduation. It’s clear that Taylor’s fans are just as much a part of her life as she is a part of theirs, and the latest piece of evidence is no less sweet than any of the others.

On Saturday, February 23, Alex Goldschmidt and his newly-minted fiancé Ross celebrated their engagement with friends at Sycamore Tavern in Los Angeles, Entertainment Tonight reports. But when Alex took center stage to introduce a special friend, it’s safe to say that the crowd definitely didn’t expect to see Taylor walk into the room, guitar in hand.

In a video posted to Alex’s Instagram, Taylor explains that Alex emailed her about the surprise (ET reports that he’s both a fan and a friend of the singer). From there, Tay begins to play “King of My Heart” from her latest album Reputation, noting that it’s a special song between Alex and Ross. “I’ve been off tour for a while, but hopefully it’s alright. This is from Alex, but sung by me.”

Other photos and videos posted to social media show the excitement and shock over the entire event. “She came, she sang, I’m dead,” Alex wrote in another caption. Of the happy couple, one guest wrote: “Everyone needs more friends like them in their lives, because not only was there love in the room, but Taylor Swift performed. Sorry I don’t have more video, I had to stop and soak in the warmth ❤️.” Plenty of Swifties also commented on the sweet moment, noting that Taylor really does “the absolute most” for her fans.
