A 1968 Corvette convertible with 427 engine and 4-speed manual transmission that has been hidden for nearly 40 years is unearthed

In a garage in a small town north of Birmingham, Alabama, a 1968 Corvette convertible with a 427 engine and a four-speed manual transmission has been hidden for nearly 40 years.

“Big Block Mike”, as the vehicle’s longtime owner is called, bought the car in 1974 for $ 2,900 as a senior in high school, using money he earned from a part-time job at the S&H Green Stam.

Once he got behind the wheel of that monstrous 427 Corvette, Mike discovered that he loved speeding the car up anytime, anywhere.

Unfortunately, having the fastest car in a small town meant that everyone knew Mike had the fastest car in town, including the police.

This notoriety was especially evident after a mechanic failed to tighten a new wheel and it quickly came off, flying 60 feet in the air and in the process damaging the rear panel.

Mike was able to find a replacement bumper, although it was painted black and unfortunately his insurance company wouldn’t pay for a matching paint job.

He then became known as the owner of a big block red Corvette with a black side panel.

One night, that mismatched bodywork came back to haunt him. As he ran north and south trying to evade the cops, Mike knew the only permanent solution to his problem was to hide the 427 Corvette.

So he hid it in a garage, and that’s where the vehicle stayed for the last few decades, until the guys from a YouTube channel called Junkyard Lif were nearby when the Corvette was finally pulled out of its sarcophagus, a little worse for wear, but still showing signs that maybe, only Mike might get another spin behind the wheel one day.

You should take a few minutes to watch this video for more details. After all, it’s not every day that an urban legend proves true.
