Supercar Sunday founder Dustin Troyan got lucky with this super clean barn find Chevelle. Now he just needs to decide on what engine to fit.
When you hear the term barn find, you typically think of an old and battered classic car covered in dust and crammed in between broken engine parts and other similarly neglected vehicles. For many, finding a diamond with potential among all the rough is what makes hunting for such vehicles such an exciting prospect.
Not all barn finds require such extensive restoration, though, and Supercar Sunday founder Dustin Troyan takes to YouTube to show off his newly purchased 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle muscle car with most of the hard work already taken care of for him.
This Restomod 1969 Chevy Chevelle Just Needs The Right Engine
While Dustin doesn’t give too much backstory about the Chevrolet’s past or the previous owner, he does begin by running through all the work the previous has done on the car. He does say that the car was a full frame-off restoration project that simply never got finished, with the car sitting untouched for around 10 years.
This Chevelle is a 4-speed manual transmission car with power steering and AC, with the underbody frame already having undergone a full powder coating. The Chevelle also has a slew of chassis upgrades with front coilovers and Global West upper and lower front control arms along with rear trailing arms and rear drum brakes.
The exterior of the car is similarly in great condition with only some minor paint scratches on the driver-side door and a small dent on the front left fender which he says won’t require much work to sort out. Dustin also says that the ’69 Chevelle has a full, good-condition interior which is another bonus.
Dustin does already own a 1967 Chevelle. However, this car has no interior, and the body is still in the primer phase. As a result, he says he’s now considering just selling the ’67 Chevelle as he may not have a need for it.
What Is A 69 Chevelle worth?
The only thing really missing from the Chevelle, aside from a few ancillary parts, is the powertrain. The car already has a 12-bolt rear axle and Dustin says that his friend Jim Basset at Bones Fab California has both a 396 and 402 cu. in. motor that could slot in very easily. However, he is also considering doing an LS swap. One Instagram commenter did suggest a 2JZ swap but we’ll assume that Dustin won’t go down that road.
The prices for 1969 Chevelle’s vary massively depending on condition and originality. However, the average sale price according to classic.com is around $54,000.
Dustin doesn’t appear to have any plans to fix and flip the car, as he just wants a working car which goes fast and looks cool. With the right engine under the hood, and with some continued understanding from his wife and kids, Dustin will have just that.
