The Life and Passing Away of Disneyland’s Human-loving Cat, Nutmeg

You may not know this, but Disneyland is home to a hidden squad of cats that help control the pest population in the park. These feral felines have been around since 1955 when Walt Disney found them in Sleeping Beauty Castle. They received care from Disney staff, who spay, neuter, vaccinate them, and provide them with food and shelter. Some visitors don’t notice them, while others enjoy finding them and posting their photos on social media. One of the best places to see them is Cats of Disneyland on Instagram, where you can admire many adorable shots of the park’s pussycats.

Nutmeg was one of the most famous cats in Disneyland, a cuddly ginger cat who loved to relax at The Magic Key Terrace lounge at Disney California Adventure. He was so well-liked that he even had a cocktail named after him, a delicious mix of rum, Bailey’s, Frangelico, apricot liqueur, and a sprinkle of nutmeg. The drink was a homage to Nutmeg.

Sadly, Nutmeg is no longer with us, and his fans are grieving his loss. He touched the hearts of many people who saw him in the park or online. He was a true Disney star and a loyal companion to his fellow cats.

The Disney Food Blog in honor of Nutmeg encouraged fans of rum, sweet cocktails, or secret menu items, to try the Nutmeg cocktail. Especially if you love Disneyland cats.

Jackson Galaxy, the famous cat expert, tweeted that all who know the Disneyland cats are grieving Nutmeg’s death, who was a star amongst the lovely feral cats of Disneyland.

He also thanked Disney for caring for the community cats and said, “We join everyone in mourning Nutmeg’s passing and give many thanks to Disney for elevating and embracing community cats.

The next time you visit Disneyland, toast to Nutmeg’s memory with a Nutmeg cocktail and remember what a great cat he was.
