This vintage 1969 Pontiac GTO is yearning for life again because of its long-hidden journey

When we think of “barn finds”, this car is exactly what many of us picture in our minds – a classic muscle car, needing work, but at a reasonable price. In this case, it’s a 1969 Pontiac GTO and it’s for sale right now, here on craigslist out of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, asking a rather affordable $3,500. Big props to Ikey Heyman for suggesting this one to us!

Pontiac produced the original GTO from 1964 to 1974, and they were affectionately known as “goats”. For the first two years, but the GTO was an optional package on the LeMans. From then until 1971, the GTO was its own separate model, and then for 1972 -1973, it was back to an option package. Pontiac also produced a GTO based on the Australian Holden Commodore for a couple of years in the mid-2000s, but we’re not interested in that right now. For the second generation, which spanned 1968-1972, the buyers could have a 400 or 455 cubic inch Pontiac V8, and their choice of three transmissions.

This particular car is apparently the 400, with an automatic gearbox, but we’re not told much more than that. The seller says that it runs, which is amazing given the appearance of the rest of the car. Otherwise, we’re told that it’s complete, but we can see with our own eyes that it’ll need more than a quick cleanup and re-spray.

All in all, for $3500, I don’t know how it’s not already in someone’s garage. As I write this, it’s been listed for four days, and it probably won’t last too much longer, once word gets out.

If I had the resources to fix it up properly, you can bet your butt that I’d be on my way to Tennessee with a car-trailer, singing Ronny & The Daytonas “Yeah, yeah yeah little Gee Tee Oh!” What say, you, good People of the Pontiacs? Would you take the gamble?
